many thanks for sharing so much via your extensive site.

I think the following text refers to Avedon..
He says his people are a fiction. He tries to make them true to what they are, but they end up a fiction, he is creating a fiction. He doesn't care about the people, he only cares about the picture. He doesn't care abt the process, only the picture. Cares only how people look photographed. Which is what gary winogrand says.

Here is a quote from him which expresses the same method

"Sometimes I think all my pictures are just pictures of me. My concern is . . . the human predicament; only what I consider the human predicament may simply be my own. "RICHARD AVEDON

p.s. I once cycled round the world with a Dylan compilation cassette for 'company'...looking at your site today I noticed that the image I'd glued on the cassette cover was your photo of Dylan showing chords to Ginsberg. It made me smile to put a name and face to the image I'd travelled with for so long.
